Two Tributes

Yesterday, Ray Harryhausen passed away at age 92. Today, Saul Bass would have been 93. Below are tributes to both men. Google did a wonderful tribute to Bass by mimicking his famous title sequences. A fan has edited the creature reel for Harryhausen's most famous scenes. Enjoy the videos below!

Behind the Scenes: Breaking Bad Season 5

Yesterday was the season opener of my favorite show on TV, Breaking Bad. If you have never seen it, I recommend to start! Seasons 1-3 are on Netflix Instant. Season 4 is on DVD. There were several effects shots on the show both practical and CG. I have posted the video below to show you how different people on set make magic happen! Even though I know too much about production and post, I am still in awe how people problem solve and think creatively. Truly, we are magicians. Enjoy!

Danger 5 - Miniatures and Studio Shoot

Danger 5 is produced by Australian Broadcast Channel SBS. This series is a hilarious satire of the pulp spy television shows and films from the 1960's. They have most of their episodes online. I came across this first episode, recommended by the Golden Briefcase Podcast. This series is fun and interesting, all done on two sets with minatures for exteriors. Think of what you can do with our own TV studio and proper set design. Check out episode 1 of 5 below!

SHORTS! Hilarious and SciFi!

Guys, once again, making shorts gets you work!!!! The filmmaker, Geoff LaTuilippe, was offered a writing and directing deal with Paramount because of this film and the attention it got from the Hollywood Reporter. This science fiction short by Aaron Sims has been getting lots of buzz on the internet. The filmmaker made this film with favors and friends. He hopes to get enough recognition for someone to fund the feature.

Those of you DF182 Documentary Filmmaking should be listening to this cast.
Editor David Chen interviews documentarian Errol Morris regarding his latest book: Believing is Seeing. Morris achieved notiriety with is 1988 doc. The Thin Blue Line, which enabled an innocent man to be set free from death roe. I've listen to the interview. I would strongly recommend that you check it out if you want to know more about the thought process behind this amazing filmmaker.
