Short of the Week - Must SEE

Your thesis projects are geared toward creating short films. Check this site out for the best on the web - http://www.shortoftheweek.com/
Here is the description on their site - "Truth be told, there are really a great number of amazing short films available for free viewing online. The biggest obstacle facing viewers is finding those few gems amongst the enormous heap of garbage they're buried in. Short of the Week sifts through all that garbage and pulls out only those that are worth a viewer's precious time. The goal of this site is to bring festival-quality short films to a broader, non-festival-going audience."

When you complete your thesis, look to submit your film to the site! Here are the details - http://www.shortoftheweek.com/submit/

Cannes 2011: Student Filmmakers Program

Filmmaking Program at Cannes Film Festival 2008 from realideasstudio on Vimeo.

From Real Ideas Studios: "We have taken filmmakers to the Cannes Film Festival for the last 5 years. You can go with us to make a film during the festival or go just to network. We provide the housing, the full-access badge and the know-how. And, we’ll place your existing short film as an Official Selection within the festival’s Short Film Corner.

Real Ideas Studio is a non-profit of filmmakers and educators. Participants within our Filmmaker program receive equipment and professional mentorship to produce short documentaries during the festival, which are publicly screened in an official Palais theatre the second week of the festival.

All of our housing is within walking distance to the festival’s Palais, which is critical to enjoying the festival fully. We provide you with a festival accreditation that gives you full-access, including to all of the screenings, the Marketplace, and the red carpet premieres. All screenings at Cannes are free with your badge!

Our program dates run May 09-21, 2011."

Studio of the Future: Amazon Films

Increasingly, the film business is moving toward an online platform for creation and distribution. The online industry just took a giant leap forward with the announcement of Amazon Studios. While other outlets for film collaboration exist (Withoutabox.com, Fox Searchlight Lab, even Craigslist), this is the first major push by an online institution to combine collaboration, creation, and distribution of short and (eventually) feature films. Below is a quote from the Amazon Studio's website.
Movies have been developed pretty much the same way since talkies were considered cutting-edge. But here at Amazon Studios, we believe 21st-century technology creates opportunities to make and share movies and scripts more easily than ever. We invite you to:

- Win money. Amazon Studios will award a combined $2.7 million in our first year's worth of monthly and annual contests for the best scripts and movies. There is no charge to participate.
- Get noticed. Your work will be shared with a global community of filmmakers and fans, who can offer revisions and advice. Screenwriters can see their words come to life as full-length test movies made by directors vying for our $100,000 monthly awards.
- Get your movie made. The goal of Amazon Studios is to work with Hollywood to turn the best projects into major feature films.
This may be the future of our industry. Please go to the site and check it out: http://studios.amazon.com/
If you have any opinions, let us know what you think! Cheers! - Eve.
