Fund Your Peers!

Funding takes an important role as you guys are planning for your thesis production. Social networking has made micro-funding easier than ever! I encourage all young filmmakers to take advantage of these platforms. The best method for funding is to create relationships with fellow film bloggers and critics. Engage in comments and networking on film sites. Once you are a consistent presences, you can utilize these sites to help advertise your campaign.

NYWIFT Shout out to AI!

For the past six months, New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT) has been using AI students and facilities to assist in their archival project. The organization is filming senior members to recall their first experiences in the broadcast and feature industry, to pass onto future members. Help A Fellow Student

Student Adam Spieler just lost two hard drives and a digital camera yesterday. They were in his bookbag the last time he checked, then disappeared. Please assist Adam in tracking them down! YANY Class Project

Jason Moore's Professional Production Team class had the opportunity to create a project for Young Audiences New York this quarter. Young Audiences is an after school program for New York high school students. This program give the kids an opportunity to create art above and beyond their classroom.

Cannes 2011: Student Filmmakers Program

From Real Ideas Studios: "We have taken filmmakers to the Cannes Film Festival for the last 5 years. You can go with us to make a film during the festival or go just to network. We provide the housing, the full-access badge and the know-how. And, we’ll place your existing short film as an Official Selection within the festival’s Short Film Corner.

Real Ideas Studio is a non-profit of filmmakers and educators. Participants within our Filmmaker program receive equipment and professional mentorship to produce short documentaries during the festival, which are publicly screened in an official Palais theatre the second week of the festival.

All of our housing is within walking distance to the festival’s Palais, which is critical to enjoying the festival fully. We provide you with a festival accreditation that gives you full-access, including to all of the screenings, the Marketplace, and the red carpet premieres. All screenings at Cannes are free with your badge!

Our program dates run May 09-21, 2011."

AINYC and the Honey Bee Conservancy

The department is teaming up with non - profit organizations in order to bring the professional experience to the classroom. This past quarter students from Jason Moore and Susi Graf's classes worked with the Honey Bee Conservancy and the NY Pops. Guillermo Fernandez, director of the Honey Bee Conservancy, recently got in touch with me to show how the classwork of the students was used in the real world. Congradulations! TFF 2010!

Student Volunteers were awarded certificates of appreciation at a private ceremony in the gallery this past Thursday night for their participation in the Tribeca Film Festival 2010. Our dean, Dave Moughalian, presented our students with much thanks for their professionalism and spirit.
