Vimeo School: Editing with DSLR

http://www.vimeo.com/videoschool/lesson/99/dslr-video-importing-and-conversion
I found an article today on DSLR footage at the Vimeo Video School Blog. DSLR expert, Philip Bloom has created a new video demonstrating how to prepare your editing workflow with free software. This method is an alternative to using complicated methods within FCP. I've posted the video below. The link to their blog has a breakdown of the steps that Philip uses.

How to convert the H264 files into an editable format.

This tutorial is for Final Cut Studio 2 users. If you are using a MAC and do not have Final Cut Pro installed the codecs will not be available to you. Use something equivalent like DVCPROHd.

FCP X - Our Thoughts

Hello Students! As of now, we are NOT upgrading to FCP X. We are waiting for instructors to test the new software to get an official opinion. Since there has been such negative feedback, we are reluctant to switch at this time. Please understand that if you work on a project in FCP X, that project is not transferable to FCP 7. Do not work with FCP X for school projects. Stick to FCP 7 until further notice.

With that in mind, please enjoy the video below. Cheers! - Eve.
